IN PICTURES: Kagiso demonstration through the lens

Scenes from the June 30 demonstration in Kagiso, where about 1 000 residents took to the streets, captured through the lens of the Krugersdorp News.

As thousands of people participated in demonstrations across the country on June 30, about 1 000 Kagiso residents also took to the streets.

Residents gathered to voice concerns about illegal immigration. Some participants were seen carrying sticks, branches and sjamboks as the group marched several kilometres through the area, chanting “abahambe”, loosely translated as “they must leave”. The phrase is commonly used during anti-illegal immigration demonstrations, calling for undocumented foreign nationals to leave South Africa.
