Mogale City pools set to reopen from September 1
Kagiso, Azaadville and Krugersdorp West swimming pools are expected to reopen for the new swimming season, subject to the completion of final operational preparations.
Residents of Mogale City can look forward to the reopening of three public swimming pools from September 1, with the municipality confirming that final operational preparations are under way ahead of the new swimming season.
According to municipality head of communication Adrian Amod, the planned reopening date has been confirmed, subject to the successful completion of the remaining operational requirements.
The Kagiso, Azaadville and Krugersdorp West community swimming pools are expected to reopen at the beginning of September, giving residents access to recreational and aquatic facilities after a period of closure.
The facilities will operate from Tuesday to Saturday between 09:00 and 17:00. Entrance fees are R8 for adults and R4 for children. Seasonal school tickets cost R234, while seasonal club fees are R78. Aquatic sports facility rental is available at R97.
Amod said all required safety, health and water quality inspections would be completed before the pools open to the public.
Once operational, the facilities will undergo daily inspections and regular water quality testing throughout the swimming season to ensure they remain safe and comply with applicable standards.
The reopening of the Kagiso swimming pool is expected to be welcomed by residents following years of concerns about the condition of the facility. Amod confirmed that it forms part of the three pools scheduled to reopen on September 1, provided all remaining operational preparations are completed.
He said the reopening forms part of the municipality’s commitment to restoring community recreational facilities while ensuring they meet operational and safety requirements.
“The municipality has implemented a planned maintenance approach to ensure the long-term sustainability of its swimming pool facilities. This includes routine inspections, preventative maintenance of electrical and plumbing infrastructure, regular water quality monitoring, and timely repairs to address normal wear and tear.
“These measures are aimed at maintaining safe, functional and accessible facilities throughout the swimming season and reducing the risk of future deterioration,” he said.
While swimming lessons and aquatic development programmes have not yet been confirmed, the municipality has encouraged residents to approach their ward councillors to express interest.
Amod said community demand would help determine the feasibility of introducing swimming lessons and other aquatic programmes, particularly for children and young people, through partnerships with sporting organisations and other stakeholders.
The reopening of the three community pools is expected to provide residents with recreational opportunities as temperatures rise, while promoting healthier lifestyles and greater participation in aquatic activities.
