Child (7) drowns in pond

Paramedics did everything possible to save her but the young girl died on the scene.

A seven-year-old girl allegedly has drowned in a pond at her home in Lanseria early on the morning of 2 July.

Paramedics from two private emergency services arrived on scene and the Advanced Life Support paramedic, who arrived first, immediately initiated resuscitation efforts.

ER24 personnel then assisted in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the little girl, but after a long battle to save her life there was no change in her condition and she was pronounced dead on scene.

Vanessa Jackson, spokesperson for ER24 says that the details surrounding this incident are not yet clear.

“It is believed that the girl simply fell into the pond that is located a short distance from the house on a plot off Elandsdrift Road in the outlying area of Lanseria.

Family members allegedly found the child floating in the water after she had been submerged for an unknown time.”

Local police will be investigating the details, and trauma counsellors were dispatched to the scene to support the family emotionally.
