Homeless man found dead at Witpoortjie station

Authorities believe the man died of natural causes.

The Witpoortjie community is shocked after the body of a homeless man was found next to the Witpoortjie train station early on Friday morning 26 July.

First to arrive on the scene was Johan Willemse of the Witpoortjie Community Policing Forum Sector 2.

He told the Roodepoort Record, “We received a disturbing call that the body of a man was seen on the grass next to the station as if he was asleep.

“At my arrival we cordoned off the area immediately and contacted the South African Police Service (SAPS).”

SAPS did not want to comment on scene. Netcare 911 arrived shortly after where spokesperson Chris Ricthie declared the man dead on the scene at 7.26am.
“At  our arrival no pulse could be found. A post-mortem will determine the cause of
death.”

There was no clear evidence that the man had been murdered and  authorities believe the man died of natural causes.
