Hospital celebrates Diabetes Appreciation Day

Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital rewards patients for positive lifestyle changes.

Krugersdorp — Netcare Krugersdorp Private Hospital recently held their annual Diabetes Appreciation Day under the guidance of nurse Magda de Hoog.

Attended by over 60 diabetic patients, the day was aimed at rewarding those who have been looking after their health and to educate patients on lifestyle adjustments to make their day to day lives easier whilst fighting the disease.

The highlight of the event was the star performers prize giving during which patients were rewarded for making positive lifestyle changes.

Patients who have maintained or lowered their blood sugar levels:

• Ruth Thlomelang

• Anna Detabe

• Johannes Coetzer

• Fredrick Dobbin

• Petros Mbewu

• Isaac Modise

• Martie Venter

• Petrus van der Linde

• Ramon Terblanche

Patients who lost the most weight:

• Muriel Carstens lost 11kg

• Harry Colllins lost 16kg

Patients who quit smoking after more than 40 years:

• Casparus Swanepoel

• Walter Yende

• Johannes Symington

Staff and patients also paid their respects to Johannes Symington who passed away after battling with the disease for almost 60 years.
