Patient still missing after 15 days
A patient suffering from meningitis has mysteriously disappeared from the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital.
A missing persons docket has been opened at the Krugersdorp Police Station after a woman mysteriously disappeared from the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital more than 15 days ago.
Kefilwe Mahlangu (45), a patient was suffering from meningitis, was last seen in her hospital bed on 14 September when relatives visited her during visiting hours.
When her nephew Stanley Sebe (31) went to visit her a day later she was not in her bed and no one at the hospital could answer as to when she was last seen.
“This whole situation leaves me speechless as I don’t know what to do,” says Sebe who regards Mahlangu as his mother after his own mother passed away when he was about five years old.
“I work in Magaliesburg, but I still do everything in my power to find her. It feels as if the hospital is not doing much to search for her – they are supposed to find her because she was in their care.”
During a previous interview he told the NEWS that he felt responsible for Mahlangu’s disappearance as he was the one who arranged for her to be admitted to the hospital after realising that she was ill.
“Still to this date (30 September) I have not received any information as to where my aunt could be,” says a concerned Sebe.
“Is she still alive? If so, is she taken care of? Maybe she is scared and weak? All these questions are going through my mind and it drives me crazy.”
He says that he will take action against the hospital if she is not found.
“They have organised counselling for me and the family,” he says while showing an SMS message he received confirming this.
“But it is not going to help us if we don’t know what happened to her.”
The NEWS sent a request to Puseletso Mabidikame, Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital’s spokesperson to discuss the situation.
