Two kilometres of joy for disabled runners

Disabled runners gathered for a day of fun at the Khosa running club.

The Lions and Khosa Road Runners Club gave back to the community by hosting a special event for disabled runners in Krugersdorp and surrounding areas on Wednesday 9 October.

The event, co-hosted by the club, has brought great joy to disabled runners for the past 14 years and proved once again to be a success this year.

“It is not a fundraiser but an event to serve the community and in particular to bring some pleasure and excitement to the disabled and the less fortunate,” says Chris Potgieter, a member of the running club.

With the help of many supporters, family members and running members of the Khosa club who assisted them during the event, some 160 disabled runners participated on the day.

Schools and organisations that took part in the 2km run included the West Rand Cerebral Palsy School, West Rand Centre for the Disabled, Logwood Ranch for the Disabled, Gateway School and Gateway Village.

Participants each received a medal sponsored by 1000km Promotions, a cap sponsored by Sabat Batteries and a water bottle sponsored by Powertech Transformers.

The day was ended off with lunch and cold drinks for all.
