“The DA is not a party for blacks, not a party for coloureds, not a party for Indians, not a party for whites – the DA is a party for all South Africans!” said Mmusi Maimane, DA Premier candidate for Gauteng during a visit to Krugersdorp last week.
After addressing an audience in Monument Primary School’s hall, Mmusi received a loud applause.
In a well-attended public meeting Mmusi outlined his vision for Gauteng. He touched on key issues such as unemployment and how the DA would stimulate economic growth to create jobs. Aware of the recent water cuts in Krugersdorp, Mmusi underlined the DA’s commitment to proper maintenance of infrastructure.
Mindful of Thomas Ferreira’s tragic experience with blue light bullies, Mmusi promised voters that he would ban the unlawful use of blue lights as soon as he becomes Premier.
While Mmusi grew up in Soweto, he has strong links with Krugersdorp.
As a young man he was involved with a church in Muldersdrift, during which time he lived with Gert Jonker (Founder of the Bethany House Trust) and his family in Noordheuwel.
A member of the audience said that while the current ANC Premier is a resident of Krugersdorp, it would be great for the town to also produce a DA Premier.
To this end the DA team urged residents to check if they still are registered to vote, to reregister if they have moved, or register anew if they have never voted before.
