Wheelbarrow exchanged for a wheelchair
A woman from Rietvallei who was pushed around in a wheelbarrow have been given a wheelchair by the Krugersdorp Rotary Club.
A pensioner from Rietvallei had to depend on others to take her to her various destinations in a wheelbarrow, but the wheelchair the Krugersdorp Rotary Club donated to her should make life easier.
Officials from Social Development became aware of Lefa Mmamodile’s (82) situation after a request from the Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane was sent to them to see if they would be able to help.
Viva Selati from Social Development says they made contact with the Rotary Club to ask if they would be able to assist Lefa.
Colin Steyn, President of the Krugersdorp Rotary Club says they were willing to help as one of their club’s international projects includes donating wheelchairs to those in dire need.
“We are happy to be part of changing Lefa’s life, even if it is only to help her to get to places quicker without struggling the way she used to,” says Colin.
He says they as a Club are always in need of wheelchairs and appeal to the community to donate wheelchairs they no longer use to the Club as there is a great need for these.
The Krugersdorp Rotary Club can be contacted on 011 954 1715 for any information about the Club as well as to make any donations or contributions.
