Ambitious local DJ spins the sets

The most rewarding aspect of his career is meeting new people every day and making contacts for future gigs.

The sensational and ambitious disc jockey Macco Johannes Moathe (28) is slowly becoming the next club DJ sensation.

The talented DJ, born and raised in Krugersdorp, has a deep love and passion for music and is making a name for himself among his followers.

Having found his passion for music at an early age, it played a pivotal role in shaping his career as a DJ.

It all started nine years ago when he met De-Boss who also was a DJ and uses violin music. De-Boss played music on his laptops at local clubs and community functions.

But the person who inspired Macco most was the late DJ Duff who always gave Macco a chance. That is how he started establishing himself, and now he is rocking the clubs on the West Rand.

The music DJ Macco loves playing is versatile. It depends on the occasion and everything that makes sense to him, therefore he is regarded as a passionate and dedicated, respectful individual who plays all genres so that he can satisfy everybody who comes to watch and listen when he performs.

He has shared a stage with some well-known DJs such as Mo-Flava, DJ Warras from Yfm and Soul Sis, to name a few.

He usually performs on Wednesday nights, which usually is ladies night. He would start playing deep house music just to ease and cool down the day’s stress and then later would play any requests from the women. As unique as he is, he surely knows how to make his listeners happy and they would want to dance even more to his tunes.

He uses the platform to educate, inspire and inform people about the issues facing our communities such as lack of job opportunities, crime and teenage pregnancy. Being part of the Umbuso FET College in Krugersdorp, it has made him humble as they are equipping the youth of the West Rand with free basic computer skills.

As with every industry there are pros and cons. The most rewarding aspect of his career is meeting new people every day and making contacts for future gigs, and seeing the crowd dancing and enjoying his music. It is an achievement that helps him to generate more money.

His word of advice to the youngsters out there is, “Go to school and use the opportunities that come to you because without education you are a nobody. If you want to be a club DJ, have a positive relationship with all the different genres of music at an early age because when playing for the crowd you need to move with time, and as a DJ you do not want to be out-dated.”

DJ Macco confessed to the NEWS that his ambition is to have his own big entertainment company one day.
