The Johannesburg and Krugersdorp SPCA inspectors are on the road 24 hours a day, ready to assist animals in need.
This involves anything from rescuing a pigeon from an electricity pylon to investigating cases of alleged cruelty.
At times, it is necessary for inspectors to place themselves in danger to help those animals who need it most in order to do their job effectively, however inspectors are in need of certain equipment.
“The items on the inspectorate wish list may seem insignificant, but they can mean the world to an animal in need of assistance,” says PR officer Jolene Beyleveld.
The SPCA appeals to the Krugersdorp community to assist with the following:
• 12 x LED torches: torches are used to light the way in dark places where animals are in danger
• 10 x Garmin/ Tom Tom GPS Navigators: It becomes challenging to get to the animal as quickly as possible when having to search for places that end up not being listed in a map book. The time taken to get to the animal can be reduced greatly by using a GPS device
• 12 x bolt cutters
• 12 x four-pound hammers
• 12 x standard size spades
• 3 x long ladders (must be able to fold up so that it can fit into the back of a 1400 bakkie)
• 12 x crowbars
• 12 x purse tazers: Many a time inspectors are robbed at night while trying to assist an animal. These will be used to defend themselves from criminals, allowing them enough time to contact the South African Police Services for assistance.
These goods can be second hand or new, provided they are in working order.
Show your love towards animals and donate these items to their inspectorate department.
