Don’t be fooled by security swindles

Men and women dressed in security uniforms might be sheep dressed in wolves clothing.

Police warns residents not to fall victim to a new scam that has surfaced in the Krugersdorp area.

“Scamsters dress up in security or retail store uniforms and take parcels and handbags at the entrances of some Krugersdorp stores,” explains Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson Tshepiso Mashale.

“Their modus operandi is to pretend to look after shoppers’ belongings while they do their shopping.”

Shoppers then would return to the place where they left their goods, only to find that the so-called guards have left.

According to Mashale mostly female shoppers are targeted hrough the scam.

She advises women not to trust a stranger with their parcels or handbags.

Residents who expect that they have been targeted by the scam are urged to report the incident to the relevant shop manager.
