Furry friends had fun in aid of animal shelter

The Canine Zone team for Cesar's Way magazine held an event at the Walkhaven Doggy Park to raise money for the Ark Animal Centre.

A fun day out in the sun.

This is how dog lovers and their dogs spent their day on 16 February at the Walkhaven Dog Park in Muldersdrift in aid of Ark Animal Centre.

The event, which was open to all breeds, was hosted by the Canine Zone team for Cesar’s Way magazine as part of their annual Love Pugs Day event. An amount of R1 393 was raised for the centre, which is a rehabilitation and re-homing shelter in Fourways that caters for rescued pregnant dogs and for puppies.

Several fun activities were held for both owner and dog, such as a fancy dress competition followed by a delicious lunch.

Rags, a six-year-old male Jack Russel and Poodle cross in his Cupid costume walked away as the winner in the fancy dress competition. He was followed by Emma, a female five-year-old bull terrier in second place and Teddy, a two-and-a-half-year old bull terrier and ridgeback cross.

Shirley Marx says that she comes to Walkhaven every weekend to spoil her two dogs. Fred is a seven-year-old American Staffordshire terrier and Ruby is a three-year-old pit bull.

People came to the doggy park with picnic baskets while some even braaied while their dogs ran around freely in the company of other furry friends.

A lake in the middle of the park is a pleasure haven for some of the dogs that jumped in to collect colourful balls and wooden sticks.
