Man hit with hammers

A man was admitted to hospital after being hit with hammers when he tried to get money for services rendered.

A 45-year-old man appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on 20 February for allegedly assaulting a man with a hammer earlier this month.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson at the Kagiso Police Station says the incident took place following a dispute about money owed for services rendered.

“The complainant allegedly painted the suspect’s home in December last year, but was not paid the full amount,” explains Sibiya.

On 3 February the complainant went to the suspect’s house to collect his money.

“Upon arrival at the suspect’s home, an argument ensued when the suspect accused the complainant of stealing his television set.”

After he had locked up the complainant in his dining room the suspect called his two brothers.

“When the brothers arrived they all started attacking the complainant with hammers, causing him injuries to the head and body.”

Sibiya says that the complainant went to a local hospital for medical care, where he was admitted and discharged nine days later on 12 February.

“The suspect and his two brothers had been evading arrests but the 45-year-old man was traced and arrested at his home on 19 February.”
