Local girl takes Model of the Year title
At the Summer Heat 2013 Gala Finals held in December, after competing against finalists from all over the country, Mila was selected as the Summer Heat Junior Model of the Year.
Today the 11-year-old Mila Loubser is a model and aspiring dancer and actor, but almost a year ago she never thought her life would be turned upside down.
In March 2013 Mila entered the Summer Heat Model & Talent Search Gauteng auditions and was chosen as a finalist to represent her province at the Summer Heat Gala finals later in the year.
But that is not all, at the Summer Heat auditions, international scouts are always present. International Talent Showcase (ITS) director Elsubie de Lange was invited as a Summer Heat judge, and she spotted Mila’s obvious talent. Elsubie invited Mila to participate in ITS in October.
At ITS, talented South Africans are seen by Kim Myers – International Talent Scout and director of Arts (Applause Rising Talent Showcase) in Orlando, Florida, USA. Kim travels to various countries, apart from visiting many states in the USA, searching for new talent. Appearance at Arts in June each year is strictly on personal invitation only, and each person invited has been seen personally by Kim.
She has discovered artists who are performing in some of the top TV series’ such as Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy and 90210 etc; in hit broadway shows such as The Lion King; she’s cast artists in Disney and Nickelodeon channel programmes and in movies and commercials around the world. She also has introduced models to some of the top modelling agencies and recording studios in the world.
Mila, along with 16 other Gauteng Summer Heat contestants, was invited immediately by Kim to attend the prestigious Arts convention in Orlando to represent South Africa. Mila and her family have been hard at work to raise the funds required to get Mila to attend this once in a lifetime event, which includes two nights in New York and seven nights in Orlando to attend the Applause Rising Talent Showcase where she will be seen by international model agencies, casting directors and movers and shakers in the entertainment industry.

Mila will be a guest at this years’ Summer Heat Search Gauteng auditions and will be happy to share her story with any aspiring talented individuals. The Gauteng auditions are set to take place on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 March. Spectators are welcome to attend the auditions at a cost of R40 per person.
