SAPS members visit day care centres in the Burg

Magaliesburg youngsters get safety tips from police and other experts.

All children attending day-care centres in the Magaliesburg area received a surprise visit from the country’s men and women in blue on 26 and 27 February as part of a safety month campaign in the area.

Social crime prevention coordinator of the Magaliesburg SAPS, Constable Rebecca Mokale together with sector managers, health promoters, youth desk and fire safety personal all joined in on the campaign and dressed up in uniform to address the group of youngsters.

According Mokale the purpose of the visit was to raise awareness on the topic of Safety Month.

“The aim of the visits was to educate the children to know the emergency numbers, to teach them about the dangers of fire and to prevent road accidents that the children can be involved in when playing in the streets,” she says.

She comments on the success of the project stating that by the time the campaign team left a specific day care, all children knew the basic emergency numbers off by heart.

Children each received party packs and colouring books on the day of the visit.
