Petty thief arrested within minutes

A boy (16) was robbed of his T-shirt and cellphone at knifepoint.

In less than thirty minutes after stealing a T-shirt and a cellphone, local police arrested the 23-year-old suspect.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson says that the complainant got home at about 9.30pm on 29 March when his brother (16) arrived without his T-shirt on.

“The 16-year-old told his brother that he was robbed of his shirt and cellphone at knifepoint in Sinqobile.”

Sibiya says that the complainant immediately rushed to the scene of the crime with his younger brother.

Upon arrival at the scene, they found that the suspect was held-up by members of the community.

“The young victim managed to identify the suspect positively as the robber,” says Sibiya.

The suspect was handed over to the police, but the stolen cellphone was not recovered.

A case docket of robbery was opened at the Kagiso Police Station where the suspect was detained.

He briefly appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court and remanded in custody pending his bail application.
