Armed with sticks, some community members of Kagiso dragged a suspected house robber from his shack and attacked him.
Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson says that the incident happened last month.
He says the 38-year-old man was inside his shack when he heard a group of men shouting his name as they approached his residence.
“The men armed with sticks went into his home and dragged him out. They took him to a spot next to a set of robots where they assaulted him.”
Sibiya says that some of the man’s attackers went back to his shack, carried out all his belongings and burnt it. They also destroyed the shack.
“The Kagiso Social Crime Unit together with its Community Police Forum met with members of the community to condemn these actions strongly and warned that people should not take the law into their own hands.”
Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident, but the police have launched an investigation into the matter.
