The owner of a clothing shop on Albertina Sisulu Road in Lewisham was shot and left critical during a recent robbery.
According to Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson Tshepiso Mashale the gunman responsible for the attack stormed into the store pointing his firearm.
“There he came across a woman who is said to be the shop owner. He forced her to a room at the back of the shop at gunpoint,” she says.
The gunman then locked up the woman in the back room and returned to the shop where he took a suit from the range of clothing on sale.
He put on the suit and continued to browse through the items, but soon was caught off guard when the woman’s husband and co-owner walked into the shop.
“He threatened the man at gunpoint and demanded money,” says Mashale.
“Refusing to give in to his demands the suspect fired his gun at the man, wounding him in the head.”
The gunman fled the scene but was noticed by an eyewitness who later put officers on his track.
Police traced the suspect and arrested him after he was found in possession of the unlicensed firearm used in the shooting.
“The 23-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and business robbery and is set to appear in court,” concludes Mashale.
