Teenager arrested for robbing store

He and an accomplice entered a grocery store and ordered the owner at knifepoint to give them the goods he was busy unpacking.

Kagiso police arrested a teenager after he allegedly robbed the owner of a grocery store at knifepoint.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson says that the owner was unpacking new stock onto shelves when the two suspects entered and pretended to be customers.

“As the owner tried to help them, one of the suspects suddenly drew a knife and grabbed his hand, threatening to stab him if he does not cooperate.”

Sibiya says the suspects then ordered the owner to give them the products that he was unpacking, valued at R800.

“The suspects, one of them aged 17, fled the scene on foot after the robbery. No one was injured and no shots were fired in the process.”

The shop owner was able to identify the 17-year-old as a suspect where after the police searched and arrested him.

Sibiya says that he was charged with business robbery and was taken to the Bosasa Youth Rehabilitation Centre in Krugersdorp.
