Suspected burglar stopped in his tracks

The Kagiso sector police arrested an alleged burglar while doing their patrols.

The Kagiso police arrested a 20-year-old man in the Chamdor industrial area for being in possession of burglary tools.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson says the sector police members were patrolling the area at about 1.30am last Friday (23 May) when they noticed an unknown man carrying a white bag.

“When the suspect realised that the police was approaching, he dropped the bag,” says Sibiya.

“The police nevertheless confronted and stopped the suspect. The bag was searched and a pickaxe with a handle was found.”

The police also seized a bolt cutter, a shifting spanner, a substation box with electric cables, a hacksaw and a loose hacksaw blade.

Police investigations revealed that the man was from Rietvlei.

He was arrested and detained at the Kagiso Police Station where a case docket was opened against him.

He made a brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
