Art classes in serenity
An art class is presented to people who want to break free from the busy world in a creative way.
In the beautiful and serene Muldersdrift surroundings, the Hartley Manor Guest House turns into an art training studio every week where a group of women try to get their minds off their daily challenges.
These classes are presented by Nicole Hartley, a Fine Art graduate who majored in painting and photography.

“The women begged me to share my skills with them and although I initially said I would never teach, I enjoy it a lot,” she says.
“Some of the women have taken other art classes before and some are complete beginners. I am very impressed with their progress as they are learning so much and are doing so much better.”
Hartley helps them to try out different styles to find the style they prefer.
“The first Tuesday of each month is dedicated to learning a new technique. This includes choosing brushes and learning what the particular brush can bring to a painting. I also show them how to mix different types of texturisers and how to apply them.”

She says it is a good feeling to know there are other people who still appreciate the world of art and who also find it relaxing.
“It tones my mind off the world’s hustle and bustle. Doing art is a time for me to let my creative thoughts run freely, which gets my happy hormones flowing.”
The women at the class agree and say it is one of the reasons why they love the classes.
“Before the classes I could not draw at all, but with Nicole’s guidance I am able to paint and feel that I am capable of creating unique artwork,” says Belinda Milson while applying a new technique to her artwork.
Shaun Warner laughs and says if Belinda can do art, so can she.
“It is a wonderful get-away. The classes definitely are the highlight of my week; if I could be here more than once I would.”

Anyone interested in attending the classes from 9am to 12 noon at the Hartley Manor Guest House can contact Hartley on 072 577 1775.
