Sterkfontein Caves awarded for excellence

The Sterkfontein Caves are world famous for their fossil finds.

TripAdvisor South Africa once again has rated the Sterkfontein Caves as a must-see destination in South Africa, enabling it to receive its 2014 Certificate of Excellence from the company.

The Certificate of Excellence is awarded in recognition of the positive feedback from visitors who post reviews on the TripAdvisor South Africa website.

“The Sterkfontein Caves offer visitors a glimpse into the exciting and colourful history of the area and definitely should be on the itinerary for all travellers heading to South Africa. We are proud that the Caves have been recognised as worthy of the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and believe this award will bring more feet into the Caves and expose more people to the wonder that they are,” says Lindsay Marshall, Maropeng Communications and Marketing Manager.

The Sterkfontein Caves are world famous for their fossil finds. They are owned by the University of the Witwatersrand whose scientists have been responsible for the main excavations at the World Heritage Site.

They are credited with many of the famous discoveries including the world famous Mrs Ples and Little Foot, an almost complete Australopithecus skeleton dating back more than three million years.

The tours at the caves, which start above ground and then take visitors deep into the caves, run every half hour, seven days a week.
