Community crime fighters gather

All sectors forming part of the Krugersdorp Community Policing Forum gathered for their annual general meeting.

During an annual general meeting sector representatives from Krugersdorp’s Community Policing Forum (CPF) discussed some burning issues that affect residents.

Under the spotlight were matters such as recent protests in Sivewright Street and the growing number of violent crimes in Krugersdorp.

A concerning figure highlighted during the meeting on Wednesday 18 June is the number of car thefts – especially Volkswagens.

CPF Executive Committee Chairperson Gert Jonker however assured that all operating CPF sectors in the Krugersdorp area are well-equipped and capable of combating crime.

He congratulated patrol members on the accumulated number of hours they spend on the streets in an effort to keep Krugersdorp residents safe.

Successful arrests in recent months were attributed to growing relationships with emergency response teams and security companies, among other.

Home Affairs representative Heidi Malesa shed some light on the issue of legal and illegal immigrants as well as political refugees in Krugersdorp.

Malesa stated that the Krugersdorp Home Affairs office is the busiest on the West Rand and that a total of 1 000 people were deported last year.
