Two suspects were arrested in Mindalore for perjury and defeating the ends of justice.
It is alleged that on Wednesday (18 June) the suspects called the police claiming that they had been hijacked by unknown males in the area.
“On arrival the police found the driver and the crew, and they gave the statement of a hijacking incident,” says Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Tshepiso Mashale.
Police followed up on the information and was told by a witness that he had seen the complainants offloading boxes of cigarettes into another vehicle next to their houses.
The vehicle, claimed to have been hijacked, later was recovered abandoned in the same street in Mindalore.
“The complainants aged 24 and 33 who turned out to be possible sellers of illicit cigarettes were detained at the Krugersdorp Police Station and will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon,” concludes Mashale.
