Rotary Club announces new president
Gerhard Human was elected as the new president of the Krugersdorp Rotary Club.
The new president of the Krugersdorp Rotary Club was inducted formally during a glamorous black-tie event.
The evening was one of good food, wine and reminiscence of the past year during which immediate past president Colin Steyn lead the club.
Before recognising the role players who contributed to a successful year of serving those in need, District Governor Anneas Balt congratulated the club on the high standards they keep, adding that Krugersdorp’s Rotarians are among the best internationally.
Following toasts to the Rotary Anns, Rotary South Africa, Rotary International and past presidents Dave Jankelowitz and Dennis Pretorius, youngest Rotarian Melodie van Brakel read the object of Rotary.
Balt made use of the event to focus attention on the desperate economic times due to the platinum-belt strike in Rustenburg.
He said that members from the Krugersdorp club could not turn their heads while children in the area go without food.
Balt then handed over a check of R5 000 in aid of children in the area.

A Paul Harris Award was handed over to Tommy Kneen – a Rotarian said to have a résumé that compares to none.

The highlight of the evening came when Gerhard Human was announced the new president of the club.
Human shared his goals and visions for his reign, emphasising the importance of serving without seeking recognition.
Christine Vaughn and Dawn Silva both were inducted as presidents for the Rotary Anns.
