Mom and baby held up with screwdriver

A man is in police custody after threatening a mother and young baby with a screwdriver.

A man who allegedly held up a mother and her baby with a screwdriver is being detained after his arrest by Krugersdorp police.

According to Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson Tshepsio Mashale the man broke into a house in Dan Pienaarville on Wednesday 25 June and came across a mother and her young baby inside.

“He threatened the mother to keep quiet while attempting to steal items from the house,” she says.

“The woman then called for help and a concerned neighbour who heard her fearful screams contacted the police to investigate,” she adds.

Arriving at the scene soon after, police found the man armed with a screwdriver.

“The man was arrested for housebreaking and taken into police custody,” says Mashale.

The suspect later revealed that he had an accomplice assisting him to break into the house north of Krugersdorp.

“That suspect, however, fled the scene,” says Mashale.
