Slain officer laid to rest

Family and friends said their last goodbyes.

Friends and family of Warrant Officer Thabo Abednego Mahlala – a Kagiso police officer whose body was found at a mineshaft after going missing – recently held a memorial service for the former officer of the law.

Family members, friends, colleagues and the Kagiso community showed up in large numbers at the memorial to bid an emotional farewell to the slain police officer.

Mahlala, who dedicated 27 years of his life serving the community, was laid to rest at the Kagiso cemetery on Saturday 28 June. Mahlala was hailed and described by friends and colleagues as a quiet, neat person who loved his work.

He is survived by his wife, mother, two brothers and his five sisters.

Mahlala joined the police in 1987. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1996 and to warrant officer in 2004.

He worked at different police stations in Gauteng including Moroka, Orlando, Lenasia, West Rand and Kagiso where he worked until he met his untimely death.
