Suspects arrested for illegal weapons

Seven armed suspects tried to attack alleged leaders of the Swanieville community.

Two suspects appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court last week (30 July) facing charges of illegal possession of dangerous weapons.

Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson of the Kagiso Police says the suspects aged 20 and 21 were arrested in Swanieville for trying to attack members of the community.

“It is alleged that seven unknown men armed with axes and sharp objects including knives tried to launch an attack on leaders of the community.”

There was some resistance from the community, which resulted in two of the suspects being arrested.

“The suspects were disarmed of their dangerous weapons and later handed over to the police.”

The search for the other five suspects is still on.
