Counterfeit phone salesman arrested

The hawker was arrested and detained.

A hawker was arrested by Krugersdorp Police after counterfeit cellphones were found in his possession.

According to Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson Tshepsio Mashale, police received a tip-off on Tuesday 5 August that a man was selling cellphones on the streets in the Kenmare.

Police tracked down the man and requested documents to prove his purchase of the phones.

“He failed to provide the needed documents,” says Mashale.

Officers also opened the phones and found that they were not Icasa-approved.

He was arrested on the scene, detained at the Krugersdorp Police Station and will appear in Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

Mashale warns Krugersdorp residents not to buy any counterfeit goods.
