Smash-and-grab suspect targeting women arrested

Detectives stood watch at the areas reported and caught the man in the act.

Following some hands-on detective work, Krugersdorp Police arrested a suspect linked to various smash-and-grab incidents at intersections in the area.

According to police spokesperson Tshepiso Mashale, “the suspect was implicated in various reports of victimisation of female drivers”.

“He allegedly would wait for female drivers to stop at traffic lights and then smash their car windows to steal handbags, purses and other valuable items,” she says.

According to Mashale, Detective Constable Glen Mothopi from the detective unit was assigned to the case and started working on it immediately.

Mothopi stood watch at the areas reported and positively linked the suspect to various crimes.

Mothopi together with his colleagues, Sergeant Majoro and Constable Kgete followed the suspect to a place of hiding where he attempted to flee but was apprehended.

“He was arrested on the scene for common robbery, assault and smash-and-grab crimes,” says Mashale.

The suspect is being detained and he will appear in court soon.

“Motorists are urged to be vigilant when stopping at intersections and to make sure the doors and windows of the vehicles are locked and closed properly. Valuable items should not be exposed,” warns Mashale.
