Preschool teacher responds to allegations
The teacher accused of hitting a nine-month-old baby at school responds to allegations.
A preschool teacher implicated in an article published by the news last month titled Preschool teacher slaps baby finally granted news journalist Amoryn Golden an interview to comment on the matter.
The woman who at this stage cannot be named due to alleged legal disputes, says the matter was the first of its kind she had to deal with in her over 20 years in the industry.
“Children and parents alike always have loved me,” she says.
She commented on the video, admitting that it was indeed a camera shot of her from behind.
However, she denies spanking the nine-month-old (at the time) Eben Potgieter saying that she only touched his nappy. She says her lawyer advised her not to comment on the matter.
Asked to comment on whether she takes responsibility for acting against the school’s rules of conduct, she says she never was in the wrong.
Referring to speculation that the teacher would leave the industry, she denies it.
It since has been confirmed that she applied for a job at other local preschools.
She believes that despite the article tarnishing her reputation she still has a lot to offer the industry and children.
The teacher would not disclose the details of her legal adviser, thereby denying the news the opportunity to confirm that the video footage is being examined to prove her innocence.
The news will follow further developments in the case.
