A 26-year-old man suspected of being involved in a series of rape cases was arrested by the Krugersdorp Police’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit recently.
Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson at the Kagiso Police says intensive police investigations led to the arrest of the suspect at the Leratong Village near Leratong Hospital.
Police has registered a number of rape cases from 2011 to July this year. In all those cases the victims were lured into believing that the suspect wanted to protect them.
The suspect targeted women who were waiting for taxis to and from work at the Leratong Hospital taxi rank and ended up robbing and raping them in the bushes adjacent to the hospital.
“The latest victim was robbed of two cellphones and cash by two suspects armed with firearms last month. She later was raped by one of the suspects,” says Sibiya.
The suspect will be detained at the police station while police investigations continue.
