Municipality’s spelling blunder

Mogale City makes the news with a spelling blunder.

Everyone is prone to a typo every once in a while, even a municipality.

The news itself can’t pretend not to be perpetrators of the online typo (yes, we are aware) so we shall not be too harsh on Mogale City for its spelling error on a municipal sign post.

Set up on Windsor Road in Luipaardsvlei the sign indicates a municipal landfill site in the area.

‘Luipaardswvlei’ – no wait, isn’t it supposed to read Luipaardsvlei?

Somehow a sneaky w slipped in, adding a rather French sounding twist to the pronunciation.

Ironically the word Luipaardsvlei was spelled correctly more than 18 times in the application documents for the particular waste management licence.

Maybe authorities reckoned that the costs to correct the sign might be unfair to the taxpayer because people will get the point.

So … if you by chance come a across a confused tourist looking for the landfill site, please assist by giving directions.

The problem however seems to be in the waste management department; in a recent article the news reported about a misspelt sign in Featherbrooke close to Silverstar Casino.

The sign read ‘moeinie rommel strooi nie’, instead of ‘moenie rommel strooi nie’, another sneaky “I” maybe …?

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
