Man busted for statutory rape

Man to appear in court for allegedly raping teenager.

A 65-year-old man was arrested by the Kagiso Police last Friday (10 October) for allegedly raping a teenager in Zulu Jump.

According to information the teachers of the 13-year-old girl noticed that she was behaving strangely and contacted her guardian who later opened a case at the police station.

Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson says the school principal explained the child’s behaviour to the guardian who took her home.

At home the child told her that her (the guardian’s ex-boyfriend) had been abusing her sexually since 2011.

“She said her friend of the same age also was abused sexually by the suspect when she visited her and was afraid to tell anyone.”

The suspect is being detained at the Kagiso Police Station where a case docket of rape was opened. He will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court today 13 October.
