Cops and robbers clash in Kenmare

Great team work from the CPF and local police leads to three behind bars.

A major cops and robbers chase came to a halt in Dingle Street, Kenmare leading to the arrest of three housebreaking suspects.

According to Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson Tshepiso Mashale a group of four men broke into a house on Meath Road close by earlier on Tuesday 14 October and were spotted by a resident before fleeing.

“The neighbour alerted members from the local Community Policing Forum (CPF) who contacted the police and in the meanwhile launched a search for the bakkie the suspects were travelling with,” she says.

After tracking down the suspects, police and CPF members gave chase.

A SAPS helicopter was deployed and officers stayed hot on the heels of the vehicle, causing some of the suspects who travelled on the back of the bakkie to jump from the vehicle and flee.

“Three of the passengers jumped from the bakkie and ran in different directions to hide in a vegetated area, but two were tracked down thanks to the helicopter,” says Mashale.

“The driver of the bakkie surrendered,” she adds.

Found in possession of electronic appliances such as flat screen televisions and computers with an estimated value of more than R30 000 the three suspects were arrested and taken to the Krugersdorp holding cells.
