False pretences lead to arrest

A suspect disappeared after a substantial amount was paid to him in January to fix a motor vehicle engine.

A 29-year-old man was arrested for theft under false pretences.

Lucky Matome, spokesperson for the Tarlton Police Station says it is alleged that on 15 January the complainant and her husband took their motor vehicle engine to the suspect for repairs.

A substantial amount of money was paid as deposit and the suspect promised to have the engine repaired by March, but they have not heard from him since, until recently, according to the complainant information.

“The suspect was spotted at a shop in Tarlton and was confronted by the complainant. She demanded that her motor vehicle engine be returned, but the suspect said it was in Randfontein.”

The value of the engine is estimated at about R15 000.

The complainant then opened a case at the Tarlton Police Station after which the suspect was arrested and charged with theft under false pretences.

The suspect will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ court soon.
