Almost R100 000 of railway tracks recovered

An anonymous tip-off led the police to the scene where they found the suspects' instruments and vehicle.

Police is looking for information that might help them in their investigation regarding railway track theft in Chamdor.

Kagiso Police recovered almost R100 000 worth of cut railway tracks this past weekend in Chamdor but was unable to catch the culprits.

Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson at the Kagiso Police Station says they received an anonymous tip-off about railway tracks being stolen.

“Police went to the scene, but when the suspects noticed them they fled, leaving their instruments behind.”

According to him police also found the suspects’ vehicle, a white Mitsubishi bakkie with registration number NYW 203 GP, loaded with cut railway tracks, two gas cylinders of 5kg and 19kg respectively, and a dual-sim cellphone.

An investigation has been launched. Anyone with information can contact the police with strict confidentiality on 011 696 9000 to speak to the station commander.
