Krugersdorp officer wins national award
Local officer is recognised for his community work.
Warrant Officer Robbie Pain from the Krugersdorp Police Social Crime Prevention Unit recently won the award for Disabled Person of the Year at the SAPS Annual Prestigious Awards ceremony.
Pain is involved in prevention and awareness regarding many social issues that affect the Krugersdorp community.
He does presentations about drugs in the community, drug awareness among local children, as well anti-bullying talks at schools, churches and other institutions.
On a daily basis schools in Krugersdorp contact him whenever they suspect a pupil to be using, selling or suffering because of an illegal substance.
He goes to the school and tests the pupil, and if the results are positive he puts the child on the division programme where the teachers, parents and pupils work together. A progress report is written by the teachers on a weekly basis. He encourages the pupil to work hard to achieve positive results, but if the child does not progress on the division programme he or she will be taken to a formal division programme at a youth centre.
Pain thanks his team for working hard to make sure these children eventually live an addiction-free life, as well as local law enforcers such as Sergeant Terreblache, senior prosecutor Erasmus, advocate Jacky Steyn and the Department of Justice for always availing themselves to these children.
“The Krugersdorp Police management is very proud of his achievement; he works hard and is passionate about his work. Finally his work has been noticed and appreciated in a very big way,” says Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Tshepiso Mashale.
