Child dies after being hit by motorcycle

The biker told paramedics that he was riding around a bend and was unable to avoid colliding with the child.

A seven-year-old boy tragically died yesterday morning 16 November after being hit by a motorcyclist near the Cradle of Humankind’s visitors centre, Maropeng.

ER24 paramedics found the body of the young boy lying on the side of the road. Unfortunately the boy already had succumbed to his severe injuries.

The motorcyclist sustained moderate injuries when falling off his motorcycle. The motorcycle laid a few metres from him.

Paramedics treated the man for his injuries and transported him to a Krugersdorp hospital for further treatment.

The biker told paramedics that he was riding around a bend and was unable to avoid colliding with the child, who apparently had run across the road without noticing the oncoming vehicles.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
