Following countless calls to the police about recurring burglaries, the Sector 9 community policing forum (CPF) will be stepping in to help secure a local school from thieving squatters.
Since opening its doors in 2009, the school has been battling with crime. Magret Ndolovo, Director at the Vine Christian School in Mindalore decided to turn to the local CPF as a last resort.
A group of four – two men, a woman and a child – have been squatting in the abandoned room on the lot on Main Reef Road where Mac’s Roadhouse used to be.
On many occasions Ndlovo saw some of them jumping over the wall at the back of the school and fleeing into the room, but police always fail to apprehend them.
The squatters also removed most of the razor wire at the back of the school for easy access to the property.
When the news asked Ndlovo what was stolen from the school, she simply said, “I’ve lost count.”
Among the things stolen are outside taps, shower heads and the security guard’s bed.
“After many attempts to get the local police involved in evicting the squatters, we decided to call the CPF to come and assist with the problem.”
When Ndlovo and members of the CPF went to the abandoned room the squatters fled on foot and were nowhere to be found.
But it was business as usual the following day, as they simply returned to their concrete shack.
Ndlovo also revealed that the squatters again broke into the school and stole all sorts of supplies.
“I found footprints close to where they had broken a window to gain access. We believe they escaped with the stolen goods through a kitchen window.”
An angry Ndlovo told the news the squatters went as far as breaking down the wall at the back, which the school had to rebuild.
Khetha Malume, the school’s security guard took the news on a tour through the back to see all the damage.
