Body found in abandoned shaft

Curious residents took to Facebook to query the heavy police presence in Chamdor. What was found was described as gruesome.

A body that was found in an abandoned shaft is also connected to a hijacking, kidnapping and murder case.

Members of the community took to the Krugersdorp Network Community page on Facebook after noticing a lot of police presence behind a closed-off scene in Chamdor yesterday.

A body of a 39-year-old man was discovered at the abandoned shaft known as the Tudor Shaft earlier this week.

The victim was reported missing by concerned family on 30 April at the Kagiso police station.

Four days of hard work and with the help of various stakeholders, the police managed to free the body which had been described as gruesome from the abandoned shaft late on 14 May.

In the meanwhile after intensive investigation, two suspects were arrested in the Eastern Cape with a stolen vehicle. The suspects have been linked to the body found in Chamdor.

The two suspects have already made a brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on accounts of hijacking, kidnapping and murder.

It is believed that the 22 and 27-year-old suspects fled to the Eastern Cape after committing the crime.

“We would like to thank the community and stakeholders who provided the leads and assisted the police with information regarding the case. We encourage the community to always report any suspicious activities of any nature in the area to the police so that the matters may be followed up. Thank you to all the stakeholders who assisted in the removal of the body out of the abandoned shaft,” comments Constable Lucky Matomi from the Tarlton Police station.

The investigation is still ongoing.
