School teacher breaks pupil’s hand with steel pipe

A 12-year-old girl's hand was broken after a teacher punished her with a steel pipe.

A 12-year old pupil from Munsieville is suffering from a broken hand after being punished at her school.

The girl’s 30-year-old mother, both live together in Munsieville, came home on 7 May after work and found her daughter in a state of great pain.

In tears her daughter was complaining of severe pain in her left hand which was extremely swollen.

It is believed that the daughter along with other pupils were punished by a teacher with a steel pipe because they did not answer a mathematical question correctly.

Furthermore the incident has since been reported to the school principal and a case has been opened with the police’s FCS (Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offenses Unit) at the Krugersdorp SAPS. Since the incident the mother has also seeked legal advice.

The child was taken to a private general practitioner for a consultation who confirmed that her fingers were broken.

Since the family does not have a medical aid they were referred to Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital where she was admitted.

It is believed the girl will need to under go surgery to reconstruct her hand but due to the swelling the operation has been delayed.

The News is awaiting comment from the school as well as comment from the Department of Education.
