One died when crane caught bridge
Morning traffic came to a standstill as motorists tried to get a glimpse of the body wrapped in foil next to the truck.
Early morning traffic came to a halt in Lewisham after a crane on a truck had caught the train bridge close to the intersection known as ‘the weekend robot’.
Members of the Sector 8 Community Policing Forum (CPF) were called out just after 9am to help divert traffic from the accident scene.
Ambulances, Mogale City’s Emergency Management Services (EMS), Traffic Department and local police arrived at the scene shortly afterwards.

The impact of the crane catching the bridge caused the driver of the Mogale City truck along with his passenger to crash through the windscreen. Both fell on the tarmac.
Unfortunately the passenger was declared dead on scene and the driver was rushed to hospital in a serious condition.
The truck was transporting a mini substation, which was hooked to the crane at the time of the accident.
Hysterical and shocked Mogale City workers formed a half circle around the deceased’s body and said a prayer while traffic moved slowly around the congested intersection.
