Suspects gain entry by dismantling walls

Is a motorbike theft syndicate operating in Krugersdorp again?

Motorbike owners are urged to be alert as thieves are finding new ways to enter properties and steal motorcycles.

On Sunday 17 May an angry resident, Jacques Swiegelaar, was shocked when he found himself minus his motorbike as he was getting ready for their weekly breakfast run with friends.

Swiegelaar assumed that after his neighbour had left their premises early the Sunday morning, the suspects may have sneaked into his yard after they had removed two slabs from the precast walls to gain access to his property where his motorbike was parked.

Swiegelaar property are protected by electrical fencing.

The suspects managed to open the electrical gate by releasing the gate motor’s clutch with a stick and manually opening it.

An angry Swiegelaar found his bike’s neck-lock on the grass to where he believed the suspects had dragged it quietly before breaking the lock.

He told the News they had not heard anything as they were in the house getting ready to go out on the motorbikes for the morning.

The sneaky thieves managed to steal his 2015 R1200 GSA motorcycle valued – with its accessories and tools – at approximately R240 000.

“I was very angry when I discovered my motorbike had been stolen; it had less than 5 000 kilometres on the clock,” Swiegelaar said.

The News is aware of a similar incident in Witpoortjie last week, where another motorbike was stolen. The thieves gained access to the property in a similar manner.
