Too quick for his shoes

A shoeless suspect was taken in for questioning after he had fled into a ditch for no reason.

Two men started running for no apparent reason when police and members of the Sector 3 and 4 Community Policing Forum (CPF) closed in on the taxi rank in Krugersdorp’s CDB.

In the last of a series of clean-up operations by the police and the CPF, the members decided to investigate the alleged drug dealing behind one of the containers at the taxi rank.

Each patrol vehicle was given exactly four minutes to get into position before closing in on the taxi rank.

With little time left on the clock, the fleet of police and CPF vehicles was spotted and two suspects took to their heels.

Immediately patrollers chased after the suspects who disappeared into the ditch that runs all the way past President Square.

As the patrollers drove up and down the streets next to the ditch, one reported seeing the suspect taking off his shoes and running deeper into the ditch.

Swift reaction by members of the CPF led to one of the suspects being captured while his partner in crime was nowhere to be found.

Before being handed over to the police, the suspect claimed he did not throw away his shoes but simply ran so fast that he lost them.

“I am not selling,” he explained, and said he got a fright when seeing all the police and CPF vehicles.

Police took the suspect to the police station for further questioning.
