Police find vehicles with same number plates

When police checked a suspected stolen vehicle, they found more than they had bargained for.

A normal night patrolling the town sent police in the direction of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

Police approached a vehicle parked in the CBD around midnight on 3 June and they found it without a registration plate at the back.

“An unknown male approached it and pretended to be the owner. When police scanned the front number plate they found the results did not match the vehicle in front of them,” commented Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Police Station.

The police went to the address to which the vehicle was registered and to their surprise found another vehicle with the same registration numbers as the one they had scanned.

“Allegedly the owner used one registration number on two vehicles.”

After the suspect had failed to provide a valid explanation for the number plates being the same, he was taken to the Krugersdorp Police Station in police custody.

The 36-year-old suspect will face charges of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and is due to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.

The vehicle was booked in for further investigation.
