Bomb scare at mall and CBD banks
Both Key West and Krugersdorp Absa Bank branches were searched by the K9 unit along with the bomb squad.
Key West Shopping Centre was evacuated this afternoon following a bomb scare at the Absa Bank.
While members of Sector 3 and 4’s Community Policing Forum (CPF) were deployed to the mall for back up, police was sent to the Absa Bank branch in Kruger Street in the CBD after a second bomb threat became known.

It is alleged that an anonymous caller tipped-off the switchboard operator, which serves both the Key West and CBD branch, of a possible bomb threat at one of its branches.
Emergency Services and West Rand Public Safety were called to assist in evacuating both the scenes.
Both Key West and Krugersdorp Absa branches were searched by the police’s K9 unit along with the bomb squad.
Entering the mall, the shops at entrance 7 and 4 were closed off and the area closer to the bank were barricaded with police tape.

Staff members, from the stores that were temporarily closed, sat anxiously waiting outside the mall while the building was thoroughly searched.
It is safe to say that no bomb was found at the mall nor at the CBD and it was back to business as usual.
A bomb scare is considered as a serious offense and is punishable with jail time.
