Two years for cable theft
Suspect caught with R1 000 worth of stolen copper cable in stop-and-search operation.

A 33-year-old suspect was sentenced to two years imprisonment, suspended for five years after stolen copper cable was found in his possession.
Peter Chauke was sentenced in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on 29 July.
The suspect was arrested two years ago for possession of stolen copper cable to the value of R1 000 during a stop-and-search operation at the Smokedown informal settlement in Tarlton.
“The suspect failed to give a satisfactory account for the possession of the copper cable and was arrested. He was granted bail, but failed to make himself available for the next court appearance after which a warrant for his arrest was issued. The suspect was arrested again,” said Constable Lucky Matome, Tarlton Police spokesperson.
During the trial Chauke was found guilty and sentenced.
“We applaud the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Nathaniel Lefakane and the team from Department of Justice for securing this conviction. Teamwork always pays off,” said Lieutenant Colonel Molefi, Tarlton Police Station commander.
