Car chase ends with scooter inside taxi
Early this morning, police arrested a man in possession of suspected stolen goods: a scooter inside the taxi.
Early this morning (23 September) in Kenmare, a car chase ensued, leaving the driver arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen goods.
At around 3am this morning, Sector 7 Community Policing Forum members noticed a suspicious looking minibus taxi on the side of the road with its doors open and the driver standing outside.
When the driver noticed the patrol vehicle, he climbed into the minibus taxi, next to the other passenger, and sped off into the dark, leaving his headlights off. The patroller decided to follow him.
The patroller called for back-up over the sector radio and soon about eight other patrollers were on the taxi driver’s tail.
On the corner of Mell and Wilde Roads, the driver was eventually cornered.
The driver left the vehicle and tried to flee, but needless to say, he was caught. But the passenger was more lucky as he got away and fled downhill into the nearby grassland.
Meanwhile, the sector members called the police, who arrived at the scene shortly thereafter, arresting the driver for being in possession of suspected stolen goods.
The scooter was placed at the back of the taxi, where a few of the seats were removed to accommodate it.
